Overview
Applications are invited for a Paediatric Middle Grade position at Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester. Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice and paediatric experience at registrar level. The middle grades participate in a rota based on a 40-hour full shift which is EWTD compliant. The trust doctor will be expected to assume clinical responsibility, under the supervision of the consultant paediatrician, for the investigation and management of patients with paediatric medical disorders. One post is available as a 1 wte fixed term contract for 6 months. The Paediatric Department offers a broad range of training opportunities and continuing professional development; the post holder would be expected to participate in peer supervision and team training programmes. Responsibilities
* Assume clinical responsibility for patients under the care of the consultant paediatrician and undertake the necessary administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
* Assume clinical responsibility, under the supervision of the consultant paediatrician, for the investigation and management of patients with paediatric medical disorders.
* Be competent in paediatric procedures commensurate with a middle grade doctor, including stabilisation of the sick child, neonatal life support and child protection assessments.
* Be responsible for the co-ordination of the care of patients admitted to paediatric beds within Dorset County Hospital in rotation with the other department middle grade doctors and for implementing clinical management decisions taken by the consultants.
* Be responsible for initiating the treatment of patients admitted for paediatric medical management.
* Attend outpatient clinics, primarily in the Children’s Centre at Dorset County Hospital, with potential attendance at peripheral ‘patch’ clinics.
* Supervise the work of junior doctors and actively participate in their education and training.
* Participate in the annual appraisal process.
* Comply with all Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust policies and procedures as well as the legal requirements pertaining to both patients and staff.
* Participate in the Middle Grade rota and cover this tier for absences due to sickness, annual leave and study leave as appropriate.
