* Minimum Qualification experience: Experience: At least 5+ years in senior sales roles, preferably in a trade association, membership-driven organisation, or the renewable energy sector.
* Education: Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (preferred but not essential with strong experience).
* Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of biogas, anaerobic digestion, sustainability, or environmental sectors is highly desirable.
Role Purpose: The Sales Director will provide strategic leadership and commercial direction for the organisation’s growth, sponsorship revenue, and business development activities. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the role will be responsible for developing and executing a sales strategy that supports the organisation’s long-term growth and financial sustainability. This role will ensure effective sales operations, strong stakeholder relationships, and the continuous expansion of commercial opportunities within the biogas and anaerobic digestion sectors. The Sales Director will also work closely with internal teams, including marketing, policy, and events, to maximise engagement and revenue streams. 2 A commercially driven, results-focused leader, the Sales Director will be responsible for building a high-performing sales team, ensuring a data-led approach to forecasting and pipeline management, and positioning the organisation as the leading voice in the industry.
Element Description
SLT responsibilities: • Contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation, aligning sales efforts with overall business goals. • Work closely with policy, marketing, and events teams to ensure a cohesive approach to business development. • Represent the organisation at industry events, conferences, and government meetings to strengthen our network and influence.
Sales responsibilities: • Revenue Generation: Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy to drive growth and sponsorship deals. • Business Development: Identify and secure new opportunities within the biogas and sustainability sectors. • End-to-End Sales Process: Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting to closing high-value deals (5-6 figures). • Industry Engagement: Build relationships with corporate partners, government bodies, and trade organisations to expand our network. • Sales Frameworks: Utilise value-based selling approaches such as MEDDICC or Challenger Sales to ensure consistency and effectiveness in deal closures.
Additional responsibilities: • Data & Market Insights: Monitor market trends, policy developments, and competitor activities to refine sales strategies. • CRM & Reporting: Maintain accurate pipeline tracking, forecasting, and reporting to support business decision-making. • Collaboration: Work closely with the marketing team to optimise campaigns and outreach for lead generation.
Team leadership responsibilities: • Sales Team Growth: Recruit, develop, and manage a high performing sales team. • Performance Management: Conduct regular 1-2-1 meetings, coaching sessions, and performance reviews. • Forecasting & Reporting: Ensure accurate and consistent sales forecasting and pipeline management. 3 • Cultural Leadership: Foster a positive, target-driven, and high energy sales culture within the team.
What we are looking for:
5-8 years of demonstrable success in a Senior Commercial Sales Leadership role, ideally gained within the Biogas/Renewables/Energy or membership, trade, &/or events-based organisation.
Proven track record of working closely with Marketing & the wider business to drive revenue performance and meet or exceed sales targets and develop global projects.
Proficiency in MS Office, Bloom Growth and CRM software platform tools i.e. Workbooks, Salesforce and other CRM communication applications.
Strategic Planning skills, business intelligence (understanding target markets and making data driven decisions)
Strategic mindset with commercial awareness.
Experience in cost modelling for profitability targets.
Strong Sales leadership and team management skills.
Excellent networking and negotiating skills
Commitment to sustainability and alignment with industry missions.
Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
