Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join us here in Cornwall. We are seeking a Consultant Hepatologist to join the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in a department with a strong emphasis on research and development.


Responsibilities

* Provide high-quality hepatology clinical care within the department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
* Collaborate with a team that includes 2 consultants, 1 Consultant Nurse and specialist nurses to deliver inpatient and outpatient hepatology services.
* Engage with the Alcohol Liaison Team to support brief interventions and reduce alcohol-related admissions.
* Support the development of endoscopy services, participate in quality improvement and contribute to regional and national research studies (e.g., SEAFOOD and COLO-PREVENT).
* Participate in ongoing development of end of life pathways and related multidisciplinary activities where appropriate.
* Contribute to teaching, training, and the university-affiliated teaching hospital environment as part of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.


Qualifications and Requirements

* Specialist registration in Hepatology (or equivalent) and eligible to practice within the NHS.
* Interest in research and a mature, forward-thinking approach to service development.
* Ability to work within a large, multi-site department committed to high standards of care and innovation.

* Inpatient hepatology support provided by luminal gastroenterologists and hepatologists, with access to management advice on complex cases.
* 7-day roaming paracentesis service by interventional radiology nurses; involvement in end-of-life pathway development.
* Endoscopy department refurbishment and expansion, with multiple rooms and a new mobile trans-nasal service planned.
* Recognition for green endoscopy innovations and a growing endoscopy workforce.
* Active participation in national screening programs for bowel cancer with accredited screening colonoscopists and a robust admin/SSP nursing team.


Research and Education

We are actively involved in national research studies including SEAFOOD and COLO-PREVENT and maintain strong educational links to help staff realise potential and develop skills to deliver outstanding care.
