A Vacancy at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Applications are invited from Clinical / Counselling Psychologists and Psychological Therapists wishing to work in the Wigan Mental Health Liaison Team, based at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. This well-established multi-disciplinary team supports service users within the hospital experiencing physical health problems and mental health crises. You will join our existing team of Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists, and become part of a network of psychologists within inpatient and home-based treatment teams.
Responsibilities include conducting psychological assessments and interventions, with a focus on trauma and mental health needs. Experience in multidisciplinary environments and high standards of communication are essential. The role involves clinical work, consultancy, supervision, and training, with regular clinical supervision provided by the Principal Clinical Psychologist.
This is a permanent position, with flexible working considered. Applications are welcomed from recently qualified or trainee psychologists and qualified therapists interested in a Band 7-8a development post. The post requires collaboration and flexibility to meet clinical and service demands, including:
1. Undertaking rapid, specialist assessments for patients with mental health issues, including dementia, especially those frequenting emergency services or admitted to hospital.
2. Participating in multidisciplinary decision-making regarding patients admitted to hospital and emergency departments.
3. Developing psychological assessments for physically unwell patients.
4. Delivering brief psychological interventions as appropriate.
5. Providing information and education to families, carers, and the care system.
6. Using psychological formulations to support resilience and reduce vulnerability, aiming to prevent future crises.
7. Delivering training to Liaison service staff in psychological understanding, assessment, formulation, and interventions.
8. Offering consultation and supervision to team staff on psychological formulations and interventions.
