Quality Control North West Liverpool is an NHS regional specialist department responsible for providing a pharmaceutical testing service to NHS and non‑NHS clients. The laboratories are modern, well‑equipped, regulated by the MHRA, and accredited to UKAS for ISO 17025. We are based in the Pharmacy Practice Unit, close to the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
About the Role
We are looking to appoint a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual, educated to degree level in Microbiology or a related subject, to join our busy Microbiology team.
Key responsibilities include:
* Processing large volumes of samples using a broad range of pharmaceutical microbiology quality control laboratory techniques, with accurate and clear data recording.
* Performing microbiological analyses on raw materials, in‑process samples and finished pharmaceutical products in isolators and safety cabinets.
* Conducting the following microbiological tests: sterility testing, bioburden testing, growth promotion testing, preservative efficacy testing and container integrity testing.
* Sampling and analysing environmental samples from pharmaceutical production units, aseptic suites and other clean‑room areas.
* Accurately recording test details and entering results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), including enumeration and identification of microorganisms.
* Approving, under the direction of the section heads, a range of environmental test reports as outlined in the Quality Manual.
* Participating in the programme of site environmental monitoring of facilities that manufacture and prepare medicines in the North West, for both NHS and commercial customers.
* Engaging in routine validation and monitoring of processes and techniques within the laboratory, collaborating with senior staff to update systems and practices as necessary.
* Supervising junior staff members.
* Completing debtor request forms for invoice preparation for external work.
* Handling routine technical enquiries from customers, referring to senior staff as required.
Requirements:
* University degree in Microbiology or a related discipline.
* Experience in pharmaceutical microbiology quality control laboratory methods.
* Strong data recording and analytical skills.
* Full UK driving licence – required for off‑site environmental monitoring duties.
