We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer with proven ATEX product design experience to play a key role within the Baseband Hardware Team as we develop our next generation of mission‑critical communication products.
Role
The role requires a self‑motivated individual who likes contributing to a team. You must adapt to changing requirements, effectively communicate progress with both design and verification of the platform, and take responsibility for delivering small product features or significant parts of larger features.
Day to Day
Our customer base includes many different industries and markets around the world. Our complete TETRA and LTE solutions have been developed specifically for users in multiple sectors to face their critical communications challenges.
You will be supported by your manager and team, as well as collaborating with other departments across the business.
Baseband Hardware Activities you will be responsible for include
* Designing intrinsic safety (IS) circuitry for ATEX‑certified products, including identifying infallible connection requirements, applying current‑limiting techniques for DC‑DC converters, and ensuring compliance with temperature‑classification and encapsulation standards. Diagnose non‑conformances and implement thermal‑management solutions such as heat‑sinking.
* Developing advanced microprocessor‑based systems, integrating a wide range of sensors such as accelerometers, magnetometers, proximity detectors, gyroscopes, and barometers to support mission‑critical functionality.
* Designing high‑efficiency, low‑power power‑supply architectures, ensuring robust performance across challenging operational environments.
* Creating and validating audio amplifier designs up to 10 W, optimisation for clarity, efficiency, and reliability.
* Conducting design verification and system‑level testing, including EMC validation, to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
* Producing high‑quality engineering documentation, including functional specifications and detailed design descriptions for modules and complete product assemblies.
What you need to succeed
Qualifications
* A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience demonstrating strong technical capability.
Experience and Skills
* Proven experience developing products for ATEX‑certified environments, with a solid understanding of intrinsic safety principles and compliance pathways.
* Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and structured technical documentation.
* Expertise in microprocessor system design, including power‑supply requirements, low‑power architectures, and power‑saving strategies.
* Proficiency with key serial communication interfaces, including I²S, I²C, UART, and USB (with USB 3.0 experience considered especially valuable).
Nice to have
* Demonstrated success in designing for EMC and ESD robustness, from component selection through to system‑level mitigation.
* Experience integrating baseband and RF functional blocks, ensuring reliable performance across complex mixed‑signal architectures.
* Background in audio system design, particularly with low‑power audio amplifiers up to 10 W.
* Familiarity with embedded Linux environments, including driver integration, board bring‑up, or system‑level debugging.
