Chargehand – Civils & Multi-Utilities Highlands & Islands Full-Time | Permanent An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Chargehand to join a highly respected civil engineering and multi-utilities contractor, supporting the delivery of key infrastructure projects across the Highlands & Islands. This is a permanent position offering long-term security, career development, and the chance to play a pivotal role in leading small site teams on a variety of civils and utilities works. The Role As Chargehand, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of a small team of operatives, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Acting as the link between operatives and site management, you will be instrumental in ensuring works are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with client expectations. Key responsibilities include: Supervising and coordinating daily site activities for a small team of operatives Ensuring all works are carried out in line with project specifications, drawings, and health & safety requirements Monitoring progress against programme and providing regular updates to site management Maintaining accurate site records including labour, plant usage, and daily work logs Completing and overseeing risk assessments, job instructions, and required site paperwork Upholding quality standards, health & safety procedures, and environmental practices on site Supporting the training and mentoring of junior operatives to develop skills within the team About You The ideal candidate will have: Proven experience working as a Chargehand within civil engineering and multi-utilities projects A strong track record in supervising small site teams and delivering works to programme and specification Valid CSCS card (SSSTS/SMSTS, Street Works, CPCS, and EUSR qualifications desirable) Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills A proactive, safety-first approach with the ability to lead by example Full UK driving licence Legal right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available) What’s On Offer Competitive salary, commensurate with experience Company vehicle Private healthcare package Pension scheme Employee Assistance Programme Ongoing training and career development opportunities Supportive working environment within a stable, growing business This role offers the opportunity to join a forward-thinking company that invests in its people and has a strong pipeline of projects across the Highlands & Islands.
