Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton or Manchester (minimum 2 days on-site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements—please discuss options with your recruiter.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
2. Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
3. Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
4. Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system using agile methodologies.
5. Ensure timely delivery of engineering plans and provide guidance on engineering methods.
6. Collaborate with the Engineering Delivery Team to develop technical solutions and mentor team members.
7. Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions based on existing designs.
Your skills and experiences:
1. Experience in designing large-scale C&I systems, meeting functional, defence, and industrial standards.
2. Knowledge of managing non-functional requirements such as EMC and shock compliance.
3. Proficiency in authoring/reviewing design documents like I/O schedules and interface control documents.
4. Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
5. Understanding of control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
6. Experience with IEC 61508 or similar functional safety standards and evidence production.
7. Experience with maneuvering systems across various industries.
