Please note this is not a Swansea city council job. You will be working with a private client who received direct payments.

A little about myself:
I am a lovable, 11-year-old boy who likes to play in water. I need a kind, patient adult to take me out to places I like, to have fun and keep me safe. I am autistic, I have Pica behaviours and a learning disability. I am non-verbal but can let you know if I am happy or unhappy. I love arts and crafts and to read the newspaper. I am happiest in quiet places, loud busy places make me feel scared, and then I can’t regulate myself, and sometimes hit out in panic. I have no awareness of danger, so you need to always hold my hand unless we are in a safe secure area. I am happy in the car but like to go certain routes so you will have to ask my mum where I like to drive. I have Diabetes and you will need to be trained by my lovely diabetes nurse, in how to support me to keep my blood sugar stable.

Driver required to take me out.


Male or Female

Hours of work:
4 hours per week during term time
8 hours per week during school holidays.

Essential:
• You must be fast, and able to keep up with me, because I am oblivious to danger, and quite impulsive.
• You must be patient and kind.
• You must be experienced in working with young people who have Autism.
• You must undergo training from my diabetic nurse in how to support me to keep my blood sugar stable.

Desirable: I’d prefer if:
• You like arts and crafts.

I will need my PA to:
Respect and understand the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
Be confident, mature and have patience.
Be dependable and arrive on time.
Be friendly with an easy-going manner.
Be adaptable and flexible.
Be supportive but not take over.
Have business insurance on your car to take clients out.

Concerning the position

A trial period will be necessary in the first instance in the form of a six-month probationary period. Salary will be paid monthly (Annual leave is calculated on a pro rata basis). A DBS MUST be processed prior to any commencement of employment. Costs of DBS will be met by Swansea council where applicant is eligible.
