Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role for an Architectural Designer based in Solihull, with flexibility for some remote work. The Architectural Designer will be responsible for creating architectural designs, preparing construction drawings, collaborating on planning projects, and contributing to the development of innovative and sustainable housing solutions. This role suits someone who thrives on shaping high‑quality, efficient, and future‑ready homes from standard house‑type development to early‑stage feasibility work for land bids.
Key Responsibilities
Produce working drawing packs for construction, with client liaison with housing associations
Develop, refine, and maintain a suite of standard house types that balance design quality, build efficiency, and commercial viability.
Ensure all designs meet current building regulations, technical standards, and emerging requirements around sustainability and renewable technologies.
Produce clear, well‑considered feasibility layouts and concept schemes to support land acquisition, planning strategy, and bid submissions.
Adapt quickly to varied site constraints, local planning policy, and client/developer requirements to generate workable and creative solutions.
Collaborate with internal teams, consultants, and planning authorities to progress schemes from concept through to planning.
Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and innovations in low‑carbon design, MMC, and energy‑efficient construction.
Qualifications
Proven architectural experience within residential development, ideally including volume housing or standard house‑type portfolios.
Strong understanding of UK building regulations and sustainability standards.
Ability to produce feasibility layouts, masterplans, and early‑stage design options with speed and clarity.
Proficiency in relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Suite).
Excellent communication skills and the ability to present design ideas confidently.
A proactive mindset with the ability to balance creativity, practicality, and commercial awareness.
