Job Title: Commercial Manager – Keltbray Environmental Services
This role involves overseeing the commercial and financial performance of projects, including budgeting, reporting, contracts, and client management, to ensure successful project delivery and profitability. The position is responsible for the full commercial and financial management of the business unit at the project level, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, contract management, reporting, and client relationship management. It requires close collaboration with the managing director, oversight of the junior commercial team, and regular site visits to monitor progress, ensure accurate records, and manage variations. Strong communication, negotiation, and teamwork skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the business unit’s monthly P&L at the project level.
2. Review, track, and forecast overhead budgets.
3. Conduct quarterly budget reviews for the executive board.
4. Prepare annual turnover and gross margin budgets.
5. Produce monthly CVR reports.
6. Review and update cashflows as needed.
7. Review contracts and terms & conditions across projects.
8. Negotiate and review contracts.
9. Maintain understanding of contract forms, especially JCT and NEC.
10. Conduct subcontract reviews and comparisons.
11. Develop and update estimating costings for the team.
12. Build and maintain client relationships; attend commercial meetings.
13. Oversee sales and invoicing processes, managing junior team responsibilities.
14. Review subcontractor liabilities monthly.
15. Understand or demonstrate ability to use COINS or similar cost reporting systems.
16. Work closely with the managing director on project budgets, payment applications, and variations.
17. Perform site visits to monitor variations, maintain records, and address issues.
18. Communicate effectively at all levels.
19. Collaborate well under pressure in a demanding environment.
20. Involve others in decision-making and foster positive morale.
Qualifications
* Degree qualification or equivalent (E)
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior commercial role (E)
Desirable
* RICS accreditation
