Responsibilities
* Assess and Manage patients referred to General Medicine
* Participate in ward round and outpatients clinics;
* Participate in the specialty on-call rotas as timetabled;
* Hold the Medical Registrar on call bleep, including the Stroke Lysis bleep;
* Provide clinical leadership to Doctors in Training and set standards of care; Be involved in the teaching of medical undergraduates and post-graduates;
* Discuss management and discharge plans with patients and relatives;
* Liaise with the multi-disciplinary teams associated with the specialty;
* Lead discharge planning and communicate with community teams (including electronic summaries);
* Undertake the administrative duties associated with patients under the care of the Consultant Physician.
* Adhere to professional, clinical policies and procedures within the Department;
* Be involved in departmental research and service developments;
* Contribute to the Trust’s appraisal system;
* Participate in Departmental and Inter-departmental meetings;
* Participate in the delivery of the Departmental Induction programme;
* Participate in annual appraisal and review of job plan, based on a partnership approach, between the Clinical Manager and the post-holder.
* Participate in research as required in areas related to the Specialty.
* Attend specialty educational and multidisciplinary sessions;
* Maintain CPD for postgraduate qualifications as set out by the Royal College of Physicians;
* Participate in clinical audit and appropriate quality assurance exercises;
* Participate and contribute to the regular specialty governance meeting; Work within the Departmental structure which is led by the Divisional Medical Director. This will mean attendance at Departmental Meetings and willingness to progress developments or quality initiatives agreed by the Department;
* Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out by the General Medical Council and comply in particular with the GMC’s guidance on Good Medical Practice as amended or substituted from time to time;
* Carry out any work related to and reasonably incidental to the duties set out in your job plan or rota including keeping of records and the provision of reports, the proper delegation of tasks and maintaining skills and knowledge;
Supervision Arrangements
A named Consultant from Department of General Medicine in Daisy Hill Hospital will supervise the appointee. All appointees will work alongside a Consultant on a daily basis. The Consultant will provide advice, support and supervision and is contactable Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:30. Outside of these hours, advice, support and/or supervision is provided by the on-call Consultant Physician.
