Mechanical Design Engineer – Rail, Highways & Airport Infrastructure –
Up to £90K +Car Allowance
Join a leading M&E design & build contractor specialising in major infrastructure projects. We’re seeking experienced Mechanical Design Engineers to manage the engineering process from design through to installation, testing, and commissioning.
About the Role:
You’ll be responsible for coordinating mechanical engineering activities, ensuring all work complies with HSE, quality, programme, and regulatory standards. Your focus will include design reviews to ensure buildability and constructability, as well as carrying out mechanical designs for systems such as tunnel ventilation, HVAC, and pumped systems.
This role requires close collaboration with construction teams and key stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of Mechanical and Public Health systems across projects. The role is a hybrid of site-based and design office work.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead mechanical design reviews and ensure compliance with current standards
* Produce and check mechanical designs, including ventilation and HVAC systems
* Coordinate with construction teams to resolve design and installation challenges
* Ensure all mechanical systems meet HSE and quality requirements
* Support commissioning and testing activities
Candidate Profile:
* Qualified Mechanical Engineer
* Mechanical Services Design experience
* Proven experience on infrastructure projects (Rail, Airports, Highways, Utilities)
* Strong knowledge of Mechanical installation legislation, BIM, and design modelling standards
* Experience with HVAC, fire-rated ductwork, potable water, and drainage systems
* SMSTS and/or CSCS card holder
* Proficient in MS Office and scheduling tools such as MS Project or Primavera P6
* Experience reviewing mechanical designs for buildability and constructability
