Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking .

Package: (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight.

The Deputy Convoy Safety Officer (DCSO) supports Defence Nuclear Material (DNM) Operation, ensuring all operations are planned and carried out in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

* Act as Deputy Convoy Safety Officer (DCSO) during DNM movement operations.
* Operational and Task management of a team when deployed on operations or when training.
* Act as DNM Operations Radiation Protection Supervisor.
* Accountable to the MOD as Chief of Staff when undertaking the Nuclear Emergency Organisation (NEO) monitoring protocols and their reporting to the MOD in accordance with JSP 483.
* Responsible to CSO for multi-agency operations fostering strong relationships with MDP, MoD, Royal Marines (RM) and Civilian Emergency Services (CES).
* Acting on behalf of AWE and the MoD as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for both convoy operations, attend briefings, meetings and exercises both internally and externally (including internationally) and carry out operational tasks in accordance with National, International, Customer or internal legislation/requirements.
* DCSO is required to have a thorough understanding of programme requirements/risks regarding operations in order to support internal/external customers.
* The DCSO is required to be able to "Step Up" to and undertake the duties of the Convoy Safety Officer.
* DCSO to demonstrate operational excellence to ensure the safe and secure transportation of Defence Nuclear Material/equipment in connection with the UK nuclear deterrent. This involves good working relationships and inspirational leadership to engage with and guide staff particularly those from other organisations.
* A DCSO must be able to delegate tasks to people both within and external to the organisation to best affect the required end result.
* Responsible to the Convoy Safety Officer (CSO) for the overall safety and engineering during DNM Convoys in accordance with current legislation, MoD Publications and Convoy Operating Procedures.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
