Job Title: Personal Assistant Hours: 12 hours per week Location: Aberystwyth area Rate of pay: 15.00 per hour Supporting a much-loved family member to access the community and enjoy 1:1 companionship Overview We are looking for a friendly, reliable Personal Assistant (PA) to support a family member who has a diagnosis of dementia and reduced mobility. The family works during the week, and the family member is currently socially isolated. Due to dementia and mobility needs, she cannot access the community independently and would benefit from regular, 1:1 support to reduce isolation and maintain wellbeing. Hours 12 hours per week Support is needed between 1:00pm and 4:00pm. Days and hours worked are flexible and can be agreed in advance. Main duties / what the role involves • Providing 1:1 companionship and conversation to support emotional wellbeing and reduce social isolation. • Supporting to access the community safely (e.g., short outings and gentle walks). • Accompanying on walks while she uses her Zimmer frame, offering steady support and reassurance. • Engaging in enjoyable home-based activities such as playing games, watching TV, and having a chat. • Supporting with simple planning for each session (agreeing where to go/what to do in line with her preferences). Driving A driver is not essential but is preferred as particularly enjoys occasional outings such as going for fish and chips on the pier. Person specification • Essential: Kind, patient and respectful; reliable and punctual; able to offer friendly companionship; confident supporting someone with dementia and reduced mobility (training/experience welcome but not required if you have the right attitude). • Desirable: Experience of supporting people with dementia; a full driving licence and access to a car. Additional information This is a family-based support role. You will be expected to always respect their privacy and dignity. This post is subject to a trial period of 1 month and a probationary period of up to 6 months. Wages will be paid in arrears on a 4 weekly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement. You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences. You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
