Job overview
A sterile services supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of the sterile services unit within the hospital. This role ensures the safe and effective cleaning, sterilising, and distribution of medical instruments and equipment. Responsibilities include managing staff, prioritising work, monitoring quality, liaising with hospital departments, and maintaining a safe working environment.
Main duties of the job
* Communicate technical information effectively to colleagues and clinical users.
* Build strong relationships with stakeholders, promoting open dialogue.
* Supervise staff and foster effective supervisor/staff relationships.
* Provide suggestions for work organisation and service improvements.
* Assist in developing departmental quality assurance initiatives.
* Support service expansion, redesign, and development plans.
* Report on NCRs, customer complaints, and performance indicators.
* Promote good employee relations and morale, adhering to principles of dignity at work.
* The supervisor will, where possible, work on the production floor regularly.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Manage production inputs and outputs, organise work, and re-prioritise as needed.
* Maintain departmental procedures and challenge non-conformances.
* Perform quality checks on outputs.
* Supervise technicians, address performance issues, and provide training.
* Review and sign NCRs, develop improvement actions.
* Organise replacements for damaged instruments and manage department closures.
* Handle ad hoc issues and escalate as necessary.
* Undertake Fire Warden duties during shifts.
Person specification
* At least 4 years’ experience in decontamination of surgical instruments.
* Recognised qualification in decontamination.
* Member of the Institute of Decontamination Science.
* Training and mentoring qualifications preferred.
* Qualifications in English, Maths, and Science or equivalent.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
