Freelance Project Engineer - Water Sector (MEICA) Location: West Midlands Contract: Freelance Framework: Severn Trent Water - AMP8 Capital Delivery Programme Overview: We are seeking an experienced freelance Project Engineer to support the delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects across multiple sites in the West Midlands. This role sits within the AMP8 Capital Delivery Programme and focuses on MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation) works. Role Purpose: The Project Engineer will assist Project and MEICA Managers in preparing specifications, reviewing and commenting on design documentation, and integrating supplier information into the overall design. The role is critical in ensuring smooth progression from design through to construction and commissioning. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate all MEICA design activities from outline through to delivery phase Report MEICA design progress to relevant project leads and stakeholders Provide technical and quality support to project delivery teams Review and input into subcontractor tenders, specifications, and scopes Manage coordination and expediting of subcontractors during off-site manufacture Oversee and monitor design deliverables including schedules, specifications, and drawings Support procurement activities such as free-issue equipment and plant tracking Liaise with design and procurement teams to manage change and resolve issues Ensure commissioning requirements are considered and built into the design Review technical documentation including P&IDs, control philosophies, telemetry, FDS, equipment and instrument lists Requirements: HNC or equivalent/apprenticeship in a MEICA discipline Minimum 4 years' experience in the water sector or similar regulated process environments (e.g. energy) Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 Strong communication and technical writing skills Ability to interpret, review, and comment on complex engineering designs and documents
