Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist
Based at Nevill Hall Hospital and providing care at other Health Board sites, including the Grange University Hospital Cwmbran, Royal Gwent Hospital Newport, and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Ystrad Mynach in South East Wales.
We are seeking a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join our team of twenty-one full-time and two part-time consultants.
The successful candidate will cover sixty hours of labour ward duties and facilitate eight elective Caesarean section lists per week. They will also support emergency gynaecological services, CEPOD theatre commitments, and existing Obstetric & Gynaecological services. The on-call commitment is 1:20.
Main duties of the job
In ABUHB, maternity services are provided across five community boroughs and at the obstetric units at the Grange University Hospital in Llanfrechfa, Cwmbran. The service includes midwifery-led Birth Centres in Ystrad Mynach (YYF), Royal Gwent Hospital (RGH), and Nevill Hall Hospital (NHH), with approximately 6,200 births annually.
Obstetric Antenatal Clinics are held at Royal Gwent and Nevill Hall hospitals, along with four outreach clinics in the community.
Feto-maternal services are available at RGH and NHH, with links to tertiary services in Cardiff and Bristol.
Gynaecology outpatient and inpatient services are provided at four hospitals, with outreach clinics at other sites.
The maternity and gynaecology services are committed to modernization and meeting current standards.
The number of sessions may vary based on agreement with the post-holder and the Health Board, either before or after starting the role.
This is a 10-session job plan, with commitments to evening and weekend on-call duties (rota 1:20). This includes daytime resident on-call coverage on weekends. The number of SPA days may vary with agreement, and an increase in SPA days would accompany additional duties. Over time, all consultants are expected to have 3 SPA days.

Clinical Director, Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Salary: £106,000 to £154,760 per annum, pro-rata.
