Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Safety and Capacity Midwife to join our team at UHB.
The successful post holder will provide clinical and managerial midwifery leadership within the maternity unit. They will be based in clinical practice, responsible for ensuring that standards of care are consistently upheld. We are looking for an innovative, committed individual with exceptional communication skills who will lead by example.
Working with the Matrons, they will take responsibility for providing clear professional and clinical leadership, ensuring the effective running of the maternity wards, and liaising between inpatient maternity services, NICU, Community Midwifery Service, and the Gynaecology ward.
The individual will be visible and accessible to women, their families, and staff, ensuring all women and their families can seek information, support, and communicate issues or celebrations.
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure flow is maintained through the maternity unit.
2. Oversee the effective delivery of the safety briefing process.
3. Adhere to the Trust's complaints and PALS procedures, resolving issues through appropriate referral mechanisms, and develop remedial action plans as needed.
4. Develop processes for effective communication within the team, ensuring appropriate information sharing.
5. Produce comprehensive reports, statements, and records; act as an advocate for staff and women in forums.
6. Lead by example to ensure all staff have the IT skills necessary to maintain accurate electronic and paper clinical records according to Trust standards.
7. Maintain accountable and responsible record keeping in accordance with policies and NMC guidelines.
8. Manage the appraisal process for team members, ensuring annual appraisals are conducted and developmental actions are taken.
9. Take responsibility for the overall performance of the team.
10. Support staff in developing personal learning and development plans.
