Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern for this post is 0900 - 1700, 3 days of the working week.
The post is an inpatient consultant post with an additional liaison service for older adults for the Vale of Leven District General Hospital, which has 92 beds, as well as a minor injuries unit. There are geriatric colleagues working within the Vale of Leven District Hospital. There is no A&E department.
Responsibilities
* Work as an inpatient consultant with additional liaison service for older adults for the Vale of Leven District General Hospital and its associated services.
* Collaborate with 5 other consultant psychiatrists and 4 specialty psychiatrists within the West Dunbartonshire and North West Glasgow Division.
* Take part in teaching and training of University of Glasgow medical students, hold recognition of trainer status, and engage in quality improvement and governance of the service.
* Provide clinical leadership of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
* Contribute to opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD) within GG&C.
* Join the North Glasgow on-call psychiatry rota (expected frequency at least 1:25).
Qualifications
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), a licence to practice and eligibility for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.
* In the UK: evidence of higher Specialist Training leading to a CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within six months of confirmed entry at the date of interview.
* Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
Additional information
Older adults from the Dumbarton area of West Dunbartonshire access mental health in-patient services at the Vale of Leven Hospital, including older adults from the Helensburgh and Rosneath peninsula. The Old Age psychiatric wards at the Vale of Leven District Hospital have two wards: Katrine Ward (functional acute ward, 6 beds) and Fruin Ward (organic acute ward, 8 beds).
The catchment area for older adult (65 years and over) population is approximately 14,400 (based on 2018 estimates). Community mental health teams are based in Cairnmhor resource centre in Dumbarton; Helensburgh Community Mental Health Team is hosted by West Dunbartonshire Community Health Partnership. These services have been enhanced by Crisis Teams and Primary Care Mental Health Teams. Wards have access to inpatient psychology and close links with social work.
