We're looking for an Archaeologist to join us in Midlands and East of England Region. You'll be an integral member of our National Trust team delivering our People and Nature Thriving Strategy, helping us to Restore Nature, enable greater access to nature, beauty and history and inspiring others through our places, actions and stories. It's a core part of our charitable purpose that the historic environment is relevant and accessible for everyone, for ever, so you'll also play a significant part in this ambition.
This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.
What it's like to work here
You'll be part of the Trust's internal consultancy: a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. As one of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including curators, fundraisers, building surveyors and project managers, you'll be working with others to help make things happen.
The role covers the East Midlands area of the region. Your contractual place of work will be Hardwick Hall. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We'll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40-60% of your working week.
What you'll be doing
You'll provide archaeological and historic environment advice, guidance and hands-on support to our operational, projects and consultancy teams. You'll contribute to our planning and projects by identifying archaeological opportunities, needs and resources and giving timely and relevant advice. You'll commission and oversee specialist contractors delivering archaeological work for us, ensuring professional standards are met by us and those who we work with. You'll champion and raise the profile of the Trust's archaeological work, inspiring others, building partnerships and identifying funding opportunities. Within the Trust, you'll mentor and train local teams of staff and volunteers, to improve their skills and their understanding of how to care for the historic environment and how we can share the stories of places and people.
Who we're looking for
We'd love to hear from you if you're:
* aware of archaeological care and management, interpretation and presentation of historic landscapes and buildings, and all relevant legislation historic landscapes and buildings, and all relevant legislation
* an advocate for archaeology, actively engaging and inspiring people and communities through archaeology
* familiar with database management, especially Historic Environment Records
* a skilled communicator, who can build strong relationships within diverse teams, both internally and externally
* a flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled at negotiating and building productive networks, and confident in using your expertise to influence decisions
* proactive and organised, with experience of managing projects and a talent for multi-tasking and getting things done, strongly focused on detail, quality, cost and time
* a leader for inclusion, who finds ways to create an inclusive culture
* experienced in assessing the impacts and opportunities of land use changes
