Job Summary

Wotton Lawn Hospital hosts an 18‑bed mixed ward that caters to working‑age people experiencing a range of mental health issues. Service users are supported by nurses, doctors and allied health professionals including psychologists, art therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and sports exercise therapists.


Responsibilities

* Engage in complex health assessments and plan relevant care in partnership with service users.
* Utilise the Care Programme Approach (CPA) to provide specialist care, education and advice to service users and carers, acting as a care coordinator when required.
* Develop, implement and evaluate care plans in conjunction with service users, carers and other professionals.
* Ensure all relevant details are recorded on Trust IT systems.
* Assist service users to meet personal care needs such as bathing and washing, delegating where appropriate.
* Participate in Multi‑Agency meetings, offering advice to facilitate ongoing treatment and care of clients.
* Administer medication within a concordance framework, including intramuscular depot medication and monitoring side effects.
* Conduct mental and behavioural state examinations for admitted service users on a weekly basis with clinical risk assessment and management plans.
* Carry a specialised role as part of the Unit Wide Emergency Response Team, ensuring adequate staff training.
* Act as the first point of contact when accepting external referrals from Commissioners and other providers.


Qualifications and Experience

* Essential: Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH)
* Essential: Formal Teaching and Assessing Course
* Desirable: Other post‑registration training qualifications


Professional Knowledge

* Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
* Knowledge of legislation including the Mental Health Act, Child Protection and other relevant policy.
* Extensive skills in risk assessment and management.
* Comprehensive understanding of different approaches to mental health assessment.
* Knowledge of evidence‑based interventions across all phases of mental illness.
* Up‑to‑date clinical knowledge including dual diagnosis and complex health and social care needs.
* Experience supervising staff and developing team members.
* Ability to address social factors affecting mental distress such as accommodation, substance misuse, domestic violence and welfare rights.
* Competent in the Care Programme Approach and associated county‑wide risk procedures.

* Complete statutory and mandatory training including Positive Behavioural Management (PBM) and Breakaway (subject to Occupational Health clearance).
* Desirable: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
* Desirable: Report writing skills.
