Overview

Clinical Support Worker - Community Liver Health Checks. Our Clinical Support Workers for the Community Liver Health Checks programme support the roll out of a pilot project providing community screening of people in hard-to-reach groups for cirrhosis. This project aims to identify people currently using local alcohol and drug services or other community services and engage them in screening for cirrhosis, offering interventions to help their liver health. This project will aim to provide patients with support to attend screening and provide direct to patient incentives to encourage attendance at screening.


Main duties

The post will be working in the community with a base at Manchester Royal Infirmary and the post holder will work operationally with the Operational Delivery Network for Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire.

* The role entails blood tests and performing fibroscans (a type of ultrasound for assessing liver health; full training will be given).
* Delivery of results and engaging patients found to be cirrhotic in preventative health care to encourage them to attend for further hospital screening and offering health promotion advice.
* Work closely with partners in drug services, probation services, homeless services, and primary care, including programmes with existing peer support schemes and the voluntary sector.

Qualifications

* Essential: Assistant Practitioner Qualification, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
* Essential: Evidence of continued professional development
* Desirable: Previous experience of working in the community
* Desirable: Previous experience of working with people in areas of deprivation or with alcohol or substance use problems


Knowledge and Skills

* Essential: Ability to perform clinical tests (blood tests and fibroscans after training)
* Essential: Ability to work with a wide range of health and social care providers to develop a team approach to engaging difficult-to-reach clients
* Essential: Ability to communicate effectively with clients
* Essential: Ability to work under own initiative as well as part of a team
* Essential: Access to a car, clean driving license, and ability to travel to outreach sites
