We’re looking for an experienced Principal Technical Safety Consultant with a strong background in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to join a growing technical safety team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on challenging projects across multiple sectors, including oil & gas, chemical processing, and clean energy. The role offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to make a real impact on safety performance.
You’ll lead technical safety projects, provide expert guidance on CFD modelling, and collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality solutions for clients. Occasional travel within the UK and internationally may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and deliver technical safety projects from start to finish, ensuring scope, budget, and timelines are met.
Perform advanced CFD simulations for fluid flow, dispersion, explosion, and fire dynamics using tools such as FLACS-CFD, ANSYS Fluent/CFX, DNV KFX, or FDS.
Analyse complex models and datasets, troubleshoot simulation issues, and apply programming tools where needed.
Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical leadership and guidance.
Prepare clear, concise technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
Contribute to proposal development and help shape innovative, cost-effective solutions for clients.
What We’re Looking For:
Degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in CFD simulation within technical safety.
Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, combustion chemistry, and explosion science.
Excellent communication skills and experience in client-facing roles.
Ability to manage projects and deliver results under pressure.
Experience with QRA, fire and gas mapping, and other technical safety studies.
Familiarity with consequence modelling tools (e.g., SAFETI, PHAST, FRED).
Knowledge of HPC/cloud computing for large-scale CFD projects.
Understanding of industry safety standards (ATEX, DSEAR, API).
Business development experience and ability to identify new opportunities.
What’s on Offer:
Competitive salary and benefits package.
