Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (CCATT) The closing date is 12 July 2026.

We are seeking a Consultant Children and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our CAMHS Children's Crisis and Assessment and Treatment Team (CCATT) in Hertfordshire.

CAMHS is managed by the Senior Service Line Leader, supported by Professional Leads and Community Managers. The team operates across three clinical sites: Watford General, Lister Hospital, and an operational site at 15 Forest Lane, Radlett.

Main Duties of the Job

Provide assessments, risk assessments, formulations and management plans for patients at Watford Hospital or Kingsley Green Place of Safety.

Offer follow‑ups and reviews for complex patients under the brief CCATT intervention team.

Collaborate and consult with multidisciplinary teams and other health and social care agencies.

Give clinical leadership to the MCC and brief intervention team, manage occasional emergencies and coordinate with senior and junior colleagues.

Act as Responsible Clinician for allocated young people admitted under the Mental Health Act awaiting tier 4 beds.

Support discussions with tier 4 teams and liaise with community CAMHS consultants.

Participate in daily MDT clinical meetings and provide psychiatric contributions.

Provide cross cover to colleagues across tier 4 and specialist services as needed.

Offer case‑based discussion and teaching opportunities to the MDT.

Perform administrative duties, record clinical activity accurately and provide reliable written communications to general medical practitioners and other professionals.

Engage in clinical governance and contribute to internal pathways and processes, ensuring smooth movement between tier 4 services.

Job Responsibilities

See new assessments including formulations and risk assessments.

Provide follow‑ups and reviews for complex patients.

Work closely with multidisciplinary teams and other agencies.

Provide clinical leadership and manage emergencies.

Liaise with senior medical and MDT colleagues from Watford Hospital wards.

Maintain relationships with senior medical colleagues supporting admissions.

Act as Responsible Clinician for allocated young people admitted at Watford Hospital.

Support discussions with tier 4 teams for admission pathways.

Participate in daily team clinical meetings.

Provide consultation and support to professionals in the wider network.

Partner with tier 4 pathway colleagues for effective discharge.

Provide cross cover to CCATT Lister Consultant colleague and other consultants across tier 4 and specialist services.

Offer teaching to the MDT.

Perform administrative duties and reliable written communications.

Record clinical activity accurately.

Take an active role in clinical governance and internal pathway development.

Participate in medical staff meetings within the trust as required.

Person Specification Qualifications

MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

Higher qualification in psychiatry such as MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.

Relevant higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc) or other additional clinical qualifications.

Eligibility

Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.

CCT in Psychiatry; or inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry; or within six months of achieving CCT/CESR at time of interview.

Section 12 / Approved clinician approval.

In good standing with GMC regarding warning and conditions on practice.

Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Experience of full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a consultant in child and adolescent service.

Experience of close collaborative working with social care and other agencies.

Experience working with service users who have complex needs within child and adolescent service.

Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psychosocial perspective and wide medical knowledge.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.

Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including contributions of others.

Wide range of specialist and subspecialist experience relevant to the post within NHS or comparable service.

Excellent medical knowledge in relation to child and adolescent service.

Academic Skills, Lifelong Learning

Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.

Participated in continuous professional development.

Participated in research or service evaluation.

Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.

Has actively participated in clinical audit.

Holds a full valid driving license and access to a car (unless disability).

Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post.

Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken.

Experienced in clinical research and/or service evaluation.

Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.

Has led clinical audits leading to service change.

Experience of organising and overseeing psychotherapy training program for psychiatry trainees.
