ROLE OVERVIEW

The Communications Manager is an integral part of the RLSS UK communications and marketing team within the Income Generation and Engagement Directorate, with responsibility for accomplishing department objectives by managing a Communications Executive, planning and evaluating department activities and supporting the delivery of organisational objectives relating to the strategic framework Specifically in supporting building RLSS UK brand awareness and reach through multi-channel communications and developing campaigns to engage with prospective and existing stakeholders.

This is a pivotal role, working closely with the Senior Head of Communications and Marketing to proactively support the day-to-day running of the Communications and Marketing Strategy with a focus on our external and internal affairs relevant to our organisation's outcomes and impact.

The Communications Manager will work closely with the Income Generation team to develop and deliver compelling fundraising campaigns and donor communications that drive engagement and revenue growth.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Contribute to the management of planning, execution, and optimisation of communications strategies and implementation of communications plans.
* Contribute to the management of the implementation of the PR plan to share positive news stories, blog posts, and case studies and maximise press coverage.
* Contribute to the management of RLSS UK's brand, ensuring that the RLSS UK brand is consistent, used correctly, enticing, and familiar to stakeholders.
* To deputise for the Senior Head of Communications and Marketing when required.
* Contribute to the management of communications budget and income targets.
* Line management responsibility of the Communications Executive to include setting personal objectives and supporting them to help deliver the organisation's objectives.
* Manage communications activities, develop, and follow a communications schedule, and perform the tasks required to meet overall communications strategy.
* Manage the monitoring, evaluation and reporting on communications performance to the Senior Head of Communications and Marketing.
* Oversee the creation of communications materials and engaging online content and offline copy, communications collateral and presentations to inspire new and existing customers whilst adhering to brand guidelines.
* Manage relationships and liaise with stakeholders to ensure communications materials are delivered on time and on-budget for the Society.
* Arranging interviews and co-ordinate comments with incoming press enquiries.
* Provide stakeholders with communications materials to promote RLSS UK awards, qualifications, and services.
* Deliver innovative and creative communications to stakeholders.
* Website management and continuous website improvement by creating web content specific to all areas of RLSS UK and offer support on the RLSS UK Shop website.
* Keep abreast of changes in the use of digital platforms and techniques to promote RLSS UK, our brand and to improve customer experience.
* Deliver strong output across RLSS UK content on social media platforms and manage paid-for social media campaigns.
* Perform all other relevant communications tasks essential for increasing the brand awareness and income.
* Collaborate with the Income Generation team to create and deliver integrated fundraising campaigns across digital and traditional channels.
* Develop donor-focused messaging and content to support appeals, stewardship, and supporter journeys.
* Monitor and report on the effectiveness of fundraising communications and recommend improvements based on data insights.

KEY TASKS

Social media

* Plan, develop, share, and coordinate responses to questions and posts on the RLSS UK platforms.
* Plan, develop and share posts on LinkedIn.
* Schedule posts on SproutSocial for Facebook Groups and main accounts – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn - as and when required.
* Monitor and report on all SM activity and engagement
* Continue to grow digital communities
* Monitor competitor's social media channels
* Monitor Partners' social media channel requests to share posts and support as and when required

Email marketing

* Support the management of the organisation, collation, and distribution of the quarterly e-newsletter for Trainer Assessors and Accredited Training Centres/Providers (Licence to Operate Members)
* Liaise with internal department and use research to devise, execute and manage targeted and effective communications campaigns with a concept, message, and call to action.
* Monitor and report on the success of campaigns.
* Organise and distribute ad-hoc, targeted email communications.

Website

* Create webpages, blogs, news pieces and forms to increase profile of and support RLSS UK activities
* Advise and implement changes to the customer journey/navigation of the website
* Ad-hoc updating as required; identify and rectify any errors o Lead on SEO requirements

Online Ads

* Support with the management of planning, creating, monitoring, and evaluating of paid-for campaigns.

Internal Communications

* Share communications updates to maximise staff engagement with products and services
* Liaise and plan with key staff to ensure optimise the content that is included in communications.
* Add and manage dashboard updates and resources to tahdah
* Create call-drivers for the Customer Services team as required

Content

* Web, tahdah, social media posts and emails
* Digital adverts and banners
* PDFs and printed sales resources, inc. leaflets, brochures, factsheets
* Advertisements, posters, and banners

Communications collateral

* Manage the organisation, collation, and distribution of the members Lifesavers Magazine
* Maintain and update communications resources, including those available to Trainer Assessors on tahdah and event materials, i.e., pull-up banners and leaflets

PR

* Assist with the implementation of the PR plan to share positive news stories and maximise press coverage
* Assist with the creation of case studies and blogs
* Manage the collation of content for the Lifesavers magazine and Qualifications and Awards newsletter

Partnerships

* Optimise communications benefits of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) partnership o Manage ad-hoc communications requests from Water Safety Partners
* Manage ad-hoc communications requests from members, commercial partners and customers
* Manage communication requirements for exhibition and event attendance
* Work collaboratively across all RLSS UK teams including income generation, commercial and membership

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Lead on and support ad hoc projects as required
* Contribute to the successful operation of the charity by undertaking such other tasks as may from time to time be required including all other duties reasonably associated with your role, as directed by the Line Manager.
* Ensure compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 by complying with internal information governance policies and maintaining up-to-date documentation as part of RLSS UK's compliance programme.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Relevant Experience, Skills and/or Aptitudes

* Professional qualification in communications, business, or related field
* Demonstrable experience in a communications manager role
* Demonstrable experience of working with an income generation or fundraising team, including the development and delivery of six-figure campaigns and donor engagement strategies. Demonstrable hands-on experience of designing and implementing impactful communication strategies.
* Demonstrable experience of designing and delivering digital campaigns that influence and shift public behaviours
* Demonstrable management experience of digital mass communications, platforms and presences to ensure digital communications, campaigning and fundraising is fully leveraged through applying continuous monitoring, evaluation, learning, accountability and innovation.
* Demonstrable experience of content strategy across all digital channels and playing a lead role in the design and delivery of communication strategies and assets.
* Previous experience of managing and inspiring a team.
* Willingness and ability to travel as required for the role including occasional evenings and weekends.
* Proven ability to craft compelling fundraising messages and content that resonate with diverse donor audiences.

Desirable Relevant Experience, Skills and/or Aptitudes

* Knowledge and understanding of RLSS UK
* Significant knowledge and experience of digital communications, marketing, infrastructure and project management, to ensure that our digital communications inspire and engage audiences to support our purpose, vision and mission
