Job details

The salary for this role is £70,505 inclusive of specialist allowance. Due to operational requirements, onsite work is expected 5 days per week. The role is based at Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

This role requires you to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including DBS checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data. Further security checks may be required.


The Role

As Operations Manager (FTF - Yorkshire), you will lead an operational programme at the Fusion Technology Facility (FTF) in line with UKAEA programmes and priorities. You will provide technical leadership of FTF buildings, plant and infrastructure and ensure operations are safe, compliant, functional and fit for purpose. Leadership will follow industry best practice including NEBOSH, and operations will align with the Authority's QSHE objectives and the facility Safety Case.


Key Accountabilities

* Manage FTF operations to maximise performance, efficiency and value; define, prioritise and implement the site operational plan; set KPIs and ensure delivery.
* Plan, monitor and report annual budgets with regular reviews.
* Manage and set operational, maintenance and technical priorities; recruit and allocate resources to meet needs.
* Define investment requirements for offices, buildings and plant; present robust business cases arising from operational shortcomings, compliance needs, and the science programme.
* Lead and manage staff, including resource planning, welfare, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), onboarding, performance management and development.
* Ensure suitably qualified staff are in place to meet current and future needs per UKAEA standards.
* Ensure compliance by staff and contractors with CDM, ISO standards and EHSQ policies; provide technical oversight and quality control.
* Foster a continuous improvement culture; maintain safety and behavioural safety through leading by example.
* Manage asset data for Plant and Operational infrastructure; coordinate with FM for maintenance.
* Deliver safety, quality, cost and schedule commitments; ensure operations support the programme's objectives.
* Interface with stakeholders across UKAEA and the site ATOh to ensure compliance with the Safety Case.
* Contribute as a core member of the FTF Management Team; promote integration of project activity with the FTF.
* Promote collaboration with other UKAEA entities and across sites.
* Perform other reasonable duties as requested by your manager.


Additional Responsibilities

* Host external stakeholders and visitors; champion UKAEA’s mission.
* Attend meetings and deliver presentations internally and externally.
* Raise the profile of the FTF with customers and key stakeholders.
* Deliver all-staff town hall meetings; chair formal meetings as required; act as delegate for Head of Operations.


Qualifications

Essential:

* Experience in Operations and Engineering management with clear leadership and technical expertise.
* Degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety and Health or similar experience.
* Extensive HS&E leadership across complex major M&E projects with high-hazard plant.
* Experience in highly regulated environments (construction, installation, commissioning, operations).
* NEBOSH National General Certificate (or working towards).
* Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ISO14001:2015, ISO45001:2018.
* Proven technical leadership of diverse installations and teams.
* Strong communication skills, including report writing.
* Proactive in resolving queries and driving improvements with attention to detail.
* Stakeholder engagement across levels; ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
