Claims Handler - Employers’ & Public Liability Injury Claims
Standard 8 is recruiting for a solid, well-run claimant practice that knows its way around Employers’ and Public Liability work and isn’t reinventing the wheel for the sake of it.
The role is based in Newcastle and centres on portal-exited and non-portal fast-track PI claims.
This is one for someone who can run their own EL/PL caseload without hand-holding and isn’t fazed when matters tip into litigation.
Title aside, this suits an experienced claims handler or fee earner with proper litigation exposure rather than someone learning on the job.
The day job
* Running an EL/PL caseload from instruction through to settlement or trial, start to finish.
* Dealing with Part 7 claims and actually understanding the CPR, not just name-checking it.
* Instructing experts and managing third parties without things drifting.
* Tackling liability disputes, evidence gathering, and rebutting denials with something stronger than hope.
* Negotiating with insurers, solicitors, courts, counsel, and the usual cast of characters.
* Valuing claims properly, PSLA plus the extras, including loss of earnings, care, assistance, and Smith v Manchester.
* Drafting Schedules of Special Damages that stand up when challenged.
* Issuing proceedings and seeing cases through the litigation process.
* Prepping matters for trial and briefing counsel when needed.
* Handling client and third-party enquiries with a level head and decent manners.
* Pitching in with the team when required, because lone-wolf lawyering rarely ends well.
What they’re looking for
* At least two years’ hands-on EL/PL experience, including litigation.
* A strong grasp of the relevant law and the ability to draft clearly and accurately.
* Comfortable with quantum and not afraid of numbers.
* Good client care and an eye for detail.
* Organised, able to prioritise, and capable of handling competing deadlines.
* Proactive, collaborative, and resilient enough for real-world caseloads.
On Offer
* Performance Based Bonus Scheme
* Hybrid working (office & home working) if eligible.
* 23 days holiday, plus Bank Holidays per annum increasing to 26 days.
* Additional holiday for 5 years service.

* Attendance bonus.
