We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our in-house design team here at Trant. The Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer will be working within a multi-disciplinary team to initially deliver the detailed designs of the mechanical aspects of clean and dirty water projects for various water companies in the UK. But the design team do provide detailed designs for both the Process & Water sector and Energy sector.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Graduate to start their career, working with a talented design team, producing detailed designs for interesting projects, within a welcoming and supportive work environment.

Reporting to the Mechanical & Process Design Manager, duties will include but are not limited to:

1. Produce design deliverables for water, wastewater and bio solids treatment plants
2. Assist in all aspects of mechanical design from site surveys of existing assets, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing
3. Produce procurement specifications for mechanical equipment; hydraulic calculations and production of detailed design construction drawings
4. Provide design assistance to installation and commissioning teams
5. Communicate with clients and subcontractors as well as external design resources, to ensure compliance with specification
6. Interpret and understand client requirements from client documents (drawings, specifications, correspondence, etc.)
7. Liaise with Project Managers and the procurement team to ensure correct purchase of plant and equipment
8. Coordinate internal and external project specific design costs in liaison with Project Manager
9. Undertake and check design calculations including hydraulics and pumping systems
10. Manage the preparation of CAD drawings
11. Undertake design risk assessments to support detailed design proposals
12. Prepare detailed mechanical specifications
13. Produce Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&Id’s)

Qualifications/requirements:

14. BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering
15. Competent in Microsoft Office
16. Experience of CAD packages beneficial
17. Full UK Driving licence
18. Applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK without restrictions

About the Graduate Scheme:

The recently updated and improved Trant Graduate Scheme is offered to all Graduates joining the business. This a period of training and development over 24 months, where you are assigned a mentor to carry out basic training associated with your engineering discipline to enable you move from a Graduate Engineer to a Junior Engineer to a fully competent Engineer. You will be given the opportunity to work within our various divisions to gain a variety of project and contract experience.

The Graduate will join their engineering teams (being guided by a mentor) and will achieve competency in a range of engineering tasks. You will be offered membership of the Trant Career Development Association, where you will be provided mentored guidance and support to achieve accreditation and membership with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

During this time, goals will be set to help you develop your skills and reach your potential and at the end of the 24 months, you should be a competent Engineer and will be well on your journey towards chartership and growing your career.
