Job Description
Essential Functions
1. Produce drawings for concepts, tooling, lamination, finishing, installation, and quality
2. Carry out Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
3. Produce reports for summarizing the analysis results feedback to how the concept level design can be refined to improve overall performance, strength, and safety
4. Accelerate product development processes for meeting both internal and external customer requirements
5. Build, run, and analyze FEA simulations to optimize design and adhere to internal and external quality standards
6. Approve drawings
7. Develop presentations for internal and external purposes
8. Assist with developing and maintaining schedules and task priorities
9. Provide support to the CNC team, production, and quality departments to ensure our customers\' requirements are being met
Supervisory Responsibility
This position may supervise additional members of the design and engineering department.
Work Environment
This position requires time spent on the shop floor and exposure to shop elements including noise, moving parts, dust and fumes. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in noisy and dust filled spaces, climb on and around large structures, lift heavy materials, sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Position Type & Expected Work Hours
This is a full-time salaried position, Monday through Friday, during normal working hours.
Travel
Occasional travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
2. Experience in the design of unmanned underwater vehicles
3. Minimum 5 years of experience in design, engineering, and/or manufacturing
4. Proficient experience with Ansys FEA
5. Proficient experience with AutoCAD, Rhino, and SolidWorks
6. Knowledge and experience in composite production and manufacturing processes and techniques
7. Knowledge of composite raw materials
8. Technical drawing experience
9. Solid computer skills
10. Excellent problem-solving skills
11. Ability to read, write, and speak English
Education & Experience
1. Masters Degree in Engineering or related field
2. Experience in a supervisory or leadership role
3. Knowledge of prepreg composite manufacturing
4. Knowledge of manufacturing machines and tools
5. Experience with systems design and systems integration
6. Experience working with or on government contracts
