Job Description
To be a leader/senior member of a team responsible for providing Database Administration services to our clients that depend on NECSWS solutions and services. As a Senior Database Administrator, you will support all our blue‑light emergency service clients and more, delivering excellent service and ensuring mission‑critical systems run smoothly. The role involves supporting the delivery of our products across the entire customer portfolio.
Responsibilities
* Management of Microsoft SQL Server installations.
* Installing and commissioning new SQL Server installations.
* Provide proactive monitoring and management of client installations.
* Provide high‑quality incident management service.
* Provide effective problem management to reduce repeat incidents.
* Ensure compliance with NEC quality standards and international standards.
* Create, review and update engineering documentation such as work plans, work instructions and technical guides.
* Engage extensively with customers on both technical and non‑technical levels, using a professional and adaptable communication style.
* Present a professional approach and attitude to all work undertaken.
* Be available to work on an out‑of‑hours call‑out rota.
* Provide strategic planning for the DBA team.
* Work with Technical Design Architects to produce solution designs for customer requirements.
* Provide mentoring and support for the DBA team.
* Deputise for the Team Leader/Manager.
Essential Qualifications
* Educated to HND/HNC level or relevant industry experience with a minimum of 5‑years proven experience in a comparable role.
* Experience in troubleshooting and problem solving.
* Proven experience administering SQL Server 2008+ installations, including:
o Proactive monitoring, both manual and automated.
o Performing upgrades.
o Performance tuning.
o Delivery of effective backup/recovery strategies.
o Setup and management of clustered instances.
o Setup and management of Always On availability groups.
* Working knowledge of common Microsoft Platform technologies.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Proven experience working to ITIL best practices.
* Eligible for NPPV and Security Clearance.
* Strong interpersonal and team skills.
* Analytical and organized.
* Flexible.
* Good communication and client‑facing/customer service skills.
* Full, current driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications
* MS Business Applications experience including Excel, Visio, Word.
* Microsoft SQL accreditation.
* ITIL Practitioner.
* Experience of automated monitoring systems (e.g., SolarWinds, NAGIOS, CHECKMK).

Additional Information
Candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre‑existing right to work and travel within the UK. Documentary evidence will be required. All offers are subject to satisfactory vetting and reference checks. Depending on the nature of the role a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check may also be required.
