Job Details Grade: 6C Hourly Rate: £16.92 - £18.27 Salary: £6,096.90 - £6,583.33 pro rata per annum Contract Duration: Permanent Hours: 8 Role Purpose The Playworker will, under the direction of the Senior Playworker, the Central Early Years Team and Head Teacher, work as part of a wider team, to assist with the planning and delivery of out of school hours childcare. The playworker’s core function is to create an environment which will stimulate children’s play and maximise their opportunities for a wide range of play experiences. A skilled and experienced playworker is capable of enriching the child’s play experience both in terms of the design and resources of the physical environment and in terms of the attitudes and culture fostered within the play setting. Scottish Borders Council operates an Out of School Clubs at Knowepark Primary School, providing care to children from 3 years old up to P7 pupils. The club is open from the end of the school day to 6pm each day during term time, and from 8 am to 6pm during holidays and in-Service days. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Work together as one team to: • Work effectively and positively as a staff team developing relationships and a shared ethos • Actively engage in high level professional learning • Engage in self-evaluation and improvement processes within the setting • Create relevant and nurturing learning environments that change regularly according to children’s interests and learning needs • Focus on children’s interests in order to provide high quality, interesting and relevant play and learning experiences • Create and maintain Literacy, Numeracy and Health & Wellbeing in all areas of the out of school care environment • Create and maintain outdoor play and learning environment encompassing all areas of the Playwork principles • Ensure equality and fairness permeates all aspects of children’s experiences • Build a profile of children’s learning related to the curriculum framework • Ensure the needs of all children are met, including ASN • To undertake first aid training to be able to deal with and take responsibility in an emergency. • Build and maintain strong relationships with parents and carers • Take responsibility for designated children and families as key worker if required • Participate in planning, delivering, observing and evaluating high quality care and learning for every child • To keep up to date with National and Local policy on Out of School Care and play and participate in continuing professional development in line with Scottish Borders Council policy and procedures. • Locking / opening the club during holidays if required • As part of the out of school care team provide day to day support and guidance to assist in developing college students on placement, trainees and newly appointed Playworkers and provide input to reports on progress through discussion with the Senior Playworker, Central Early Years Team or Head Teacher as required Essential  HNC in Childhood Practice  NNEB  Social Services (Children & Young People) SCQF level 7  SVQ3 in Playwork Informal Enquiries Informal enquiries may be made to Leona Richardson at Leona.Richardson@scotborders.gov.uk.
