About this opportunity Networks and Managed Services Delivery (NMSD) is responsible for the delivery of Network Products & Solutions, Network Roll-Out, Support & Repair, Network Optimization & Managed Services. The EHS Principal Design Specialist role is responsible for applying their expert knowledge in relation the Construction design regulations 2015, acting as the Principal Design lead in planning, managing, monitoring, and coordinating health and safety during the pre-construction phase (design and planning stage) of a project involving, or likely to involve, more than one contractor to ensure that Ericsson is achieving the highest possible standards on the projects to which the role holder may be aligned from time to time. As principal design lead you will maintain control over the pre-construction phase using relevant skills, knowledge, and experience influencing how risks to health and safety are managed throughout a project. Ensuring the project is delivered in a way that secures the health and safety of everyone affected by the work. The Role holder will be required to make fact-based decisions and implement speedily to influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels establishing and maintaining credible working relationships with a network of internal and external stakeholders at all levels. What you will do Act as the Principal Designer appointed under regulation 5(1)(a) to perform specified duties in regulations 11 and 12, as per the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 Provide support to Design and build teams employing design risk management strategies having the ability to understand, manage and coordinate the pre-construction phase on behalf of Ericsson (including ensuring that significant and foreseeable risks are managed through the design process), and any design work carried out after construction begins. Provide advice to duty holders on CDM regulations and relevant EHS requirements, ensuring all stakeholders internal and external comply with their duties and co-operate with each other for the duration of the project, working with any other designers/ stakeholders on the project to eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks to anyone. Coordinating and chair design meetings assisting Client in developing H&S Arrangements Liaise with Client and Principal contractor for the duration of the project (or the duration of PD appointment), maintaining positive client and other stakeholder relationships. Provide Help and advice to the client in bringing together pre-construction information and provide the information designers and contractors need to carry out their duties. affected by the work and, where that is not possible, take steps to reduce or control those risks. Ensure that everyone involved in the pre-construction phase communicates and cooperates, coordinating their work wherever required, liaise with the principal contractor, keeping them informed of any risks that need to be controlled during the construction phase. Manage and ensure completion of the H&S file and associated documents, including pre-construction information and conduct design risk reviews. Conduct audit and review on suppliers supporting CDM design and principal contractor duties. Develop and Promote Ericsson Safety Culture, coaching, enabling, promoting, and encouraging safe working practices and behaviours promoting Target Zero Culture. Promote and encourage all internal and external personnel to report incidents, near misses hazards and continuous improvement suggestions. Lead Investigations and complete a Root Cause Analysis report into any internal investigation within their area of responsibility in liaison with the Head of EHS UK&I and any specialist support that may be required, and provide, track and implement recommendations. Support internal training / toolbox talks on relevant CDM topics and lessons learned, updates or new and emerging risks relevant to the business. Regular reporting to Management Team on CDM performance issues and achievements including any agreed Improvement Plans Provide monthly updates to the Head of EHS UK&I concerning performance, including those relevant to the annual Market Area Europe & Latin America(MELA) KPI's. Any other duties to support EHS management with project / region as determined by senior management. You will bring Required Health and Safety qualifications such as NEBOSH certificate Qualification in an engineering, design, or construction-related subject area Extensive knowledge of Construction Design and Management (CDM 2015) Regulations EHS Internal / External Audit experience (ISO:14001/45001) Fluency in English Ability to maintain relationships at all levels across all stakeholders i.e. Ericsson, Customers, Suppliers, Industry bodies and regulators. Ability to effectively assess needs of customer and translation of those into actions Extensive experience working with contractors and suppliers. Good knowledge of hazards involved in construction such as Asbestos Awareness Excellent interpersonal, social and communication skills Demonstrable leadership capability in leading and inspiring change in a large, sophisticated organization. Ability to influence and inspire action in a matrix organisation. Desirable Telecoms industry awareness including Radio Frequency awareness. Local Market Knowledge member or above of IOSH.
