We do this through our strong relationships with Northern Irelands political parties, the Executive, the Assembly and with communities and civic, voluntary and academic stakeholders, as well as with international partners. The team supports the stability and peace brought about by the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement and its successors, with a primary aim of ensuring the devolved institutions can deliver for the people of Northern Ireland. The team also oversees the delivery of the Safeguarding the Union command paper, published in January 2024. The jobholder will be expected to quickly develop a strong expertise on Northern Ireland politics and community issues, and the events, people and decisions that shape them. They will also play a key role in ensuring that the Northern Ireland Office and the whole of the UK Government maintains a strong understanding of Northern Irelands political events and their impact on UK Government policy and approach. The role offers significant amounts of autonomy, and the post-holder should be comfortable with driving forward work and maintaining effective, responsive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Developing and delivering an engagement strategy as part of the Government's efforts to support political stability in Northern Ireland; Co-ordinating the NIO Ministerial team's political activities in Northern Ireland, including the development of high quality briefing; Representing the Government at key events and conferences in Northern Ireland; Engaging with international partners on issues related to Northern Ireland; and Monitoring and reporting on political events in Northern Ireland, including Assembly and Executive business, and using excellent political awareness and judgement to identify and communicate the wider implications of these on the NIOs work. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: The post holder will need to demonstrate the following in their application and at interview: Relationship skills and the capacity to quickly and autonomously build and maintain a network of internal and external stakeholders; Policy development skills and the capacity to produce high quality briefings for senior leaders and Ministers across Government; Ability to see the bigger picture and to weigh up the pros and cons of various factors to give robust and accurate advice to senior leaders; Strong written and oral communication skills and an ability to present analysis effectively and persuasively to a range of audiences; and An understanding of the political environment in Northern Ireland BEHAVIOURS: We will assess you against the following Success Profiles behaviours at SEO level during the interview process : Delivering at Pace; Communicating and Influencing; and Making Effective Decisions EXPERIENCE: Please provide a CV with details of your education, professional qualifications, previous skills and full employment history; and a statement of suitability no longer than 500 words outlining how you meet the essential and desirable criteria.
