Job Description
My Client is a newly established, values-driven children’s residential care provider dedicated to delivering high-quality, safe, and nurturing homes for vulnerable children and young people. Our mission is to create a supportive environment where every child can thrive, heal, and grow. As we prepare to launch our first Ofsted-registered home, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Responsible Individual (RI) to help drive our vision forward.
The Role
As the Responsible Individual, you will act as the strategic leader and Ofsted-registered figure overseeing the management and governance of the children’s home. You will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and Ofsted inspection framework.
You will work closely with the Registered Manager and company directors to ensure children receive high standards of care, safeguarding is paramount, and the home operates effectively and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and hold accountability for the performance and compliance of the children’s home.
Support and challenge the Registered Manager to ensure high standards of care, safeguarding, and leadership.
Ensure compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements including Ofsted, the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, and Quality Standards.
Lead on continuous improvement, setting clear expectations and driving outstanding outcomes for children.
Engage with key stakeholders including social workers, local authorities, inspectors, and professionals.
Conduct regular audits, quality assurance visits, and contribute to Regulation 44 monitoring where appropriate.
Ensure the ethos of the home remains child-centred, therapeutic, and trauma-informed.
Attend and contribute to Ofsted inspections and represent the home in strategic discussions.
Essential Requirements
Experience as a Responsible Individual or senior leader in a children’s residential care setting.
Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and the Ofsted inspection framework.
Proven track record of improving outcomes for children in care.
Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic management skills.
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
Clean enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and the right to work in the UK.
Flexibility to travel to the home regularly and attend meetings/inspections as needed.
Desirable
Prior experience opening or registering new children’s homes.
Experience working with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).
Familiarity with therapeutic models and trauma-informed care approaches.
