An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, dynamic and self‑motivated nurse to join the expanding Acute Oncology team for the Newcastle NHS Trust as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. The role of the Acute Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist provides urgent assessment, rapid initial management and appropriate specialist input for any patient presenting acutely unwell with problems relating to their cancer or cancer treatment.
* Work as part of the acute oncology team across both sites (Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman), over seven days a week, including bank holidays.
* The post holder will provide specialist, expert nursing care and support for patients with an oncological/hematological diagnosis, attending acutely unwell. Advise and support clinical colleagues on the investigation, care and management of this group of patients.
* Provide ongoing education of colleagues at all levels across the trust.
* Possess excellent communication skills and be able to communicate complex and sensitive information.
* Possess critical thinking skills.
* Manage an independent workload.
* Work well as part of a team.
* Provide specialist knowledge and support to patients via the emergency triage phone.
* Work closely with the oncology/haematology team and wider MDT.
* Support with the development, promotion and delivery of the new acute oncology service.
* Complications related to cancer treatment, complications of cancer, suspected malignancy of unknown origin, MSCC.
