Opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide key technical support during design, tender review, installation, and commissioning phases of major projects in one of the UK’s most trusted utilities providers.
What will you be doing?
The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that projects which require an electrical input are correctly defined, designed, installed, and completed.
This will be an all-encompassing design role working on a variety of Engineering projects such as Pumping Station refurbishments and Treatment Works upgrades, working on multiple concurrent projects.
Day to day you’ll be…
The Senior Electrical Engineer will undertake, or direct the undertaking of:
* Providing technical lead and oversight on projects requiring electrical design input including HV works.
* Providing support to the Principal Engineer/Designers/Project Managers to ensure that the design brief meets the project scope and that stakeholder requirements are incorporated into designs.
* Define scope of survey works and ensure surveys meet design requirements.
* Undertake any necessary design activities aligned to area of expertise within project brief whilst developing designs that meet technical standards and are safe and efficient to build, commission, operate, maintain, and dismantle.
* Develop tender documentation scope and specification working collaboratively with Procurement.
* Support Procurement providing specialist technical expertise evaluating tender returns and quotations.
* Support the Principal Engineer / Project Manager to ensure site activities are aligned with design and specification.
* Where appropriate provide site supervision of works, ensuring that works on site are undertaken safely, efficiently and in accordance with contract technical specifications.
* Provide technical advice to other parts of the business including Contractors and undertaking post-construction snagging.
* Preparation of record documentation including drawings, O&M manuals and updates to asset data records.
* Where appropriate, ensure that there is a reliable interface between Capital Delivery and Operations during commissioning and takeover, thus ensuring smooth handover.
* Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with your main duties.
What we’re looking for...
* Design of electrical engineering works in an industrial environment.
* Proven competency with BS7671 18th Edition.
* HV Authorised Person and proven competency as an Electrical Permit writer.
* A Technical Authority to support the Company in maintaining the Electrical Specification, ensuring project compliance and review of technical impact of project changes.
* Basic competency with AutoCAD and related applications.
* Understanding of regulations and standards relating to electrical design and construction.
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written English.
* Computer Literate- must be skilled in using Word/Excel to produce written reports, specifications and similar.
* Working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
* CDM knowledge and working experience.
* Electrical engineering degree or equivalent
* Chartered Engineer with relevant professional institution.
Ideally, you’ll also have…
* Basic understanding of NEC4 contracts.
* Understanding and appreciation of project management processes and procedures
* Design, Installation and/or maintenance of mechanical ICA and process plant.
* Knowledge of the water industry and experience in potable water.
* Understanding of regulations and standards relating to industrial MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Process) design and construction
* Broad understanding of systems, plant and processes used in municipal water treatment.
