Are you a passionate and experienced registered nurse with a commitment to developing the future workforce? University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated Band 6 Clinical Educator for Placement Support to play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing the clinical learning experience of pre‑registration learners across the Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated registered nurse to influence the quality of practice education, support the professional development of the future workforce, and play a key role in shaping a positive learning culture across the Trust. Based at Worthing Hospital, the post holder will work in partnership with learners, Practice Assessors, Supervisors, and clinical managers to ensure a high-quality clinical learning environment that fosters professional growth and safe, compassionate patient care.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Practice Education Facilitator, you will work with a high level of autonomy to support learners from a range of professional backgrounds in practice. A key focus of the role is to empower and support Practice Assessors and Supervisors in fulfilling their educational responsibilities, ensuring learners have access to meaningful, inclusive learning opportunities that meet professional and regulatory standards.

You will also actively promote interprofessional learning and collaboration, working across multidisciplinary teams to enhance the student experience and develop a positive learning culture.

Education, Quality and Governance

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Integrated Education and Practice Development Teams, you will contribute to the design and delivery of high‑quality education programmes aligned with contemporary clinical practice. This includes:

Supporting the Trust’s clinical governance and quality agenda

Embedding national guidance and professional standards into educational practice

Ensuring education initiatives demonstrably contribute to improvements in patient safety, experience and outcomes

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Working autonomously and in partnership with learners, Practice Assessors, Supervisors, Educators and Clinical Managers, the post holder ensures a high‑quality, inclusive learning environment that meets professional and regulatory standards. The role focuses on empowering assessors and supervisors, promoting interprofessional learning, and contributing to education, quality, and governance agendas to enhance patient safety, experience and outcomes.

To work collaboratively with other Trust practice educators/facilitators & fellow practice educators across the network, to promote cohesive best practice & share resources.

Assist in promotion of a culture of research mindedness and assist in ensuring that links between research recommendations are established by changes in clinical practice
Contribute to the overall development of nursing practice through involvement in clinical audit and education and training to ensure quality improvements focus on the fundamentals of care.
Participate in research studies when opportunities arise to support the development of own practice and that of others.
Attend any HEI or HEKSS education /learning research and development events and feed back to team
Ensure that all planning and delivery of nursing care incorporates the Trust values and Vision and reflects best evidence-based practice.
Ensure that all patients have appropriate individualised, clinical assessments.
Ensure that all patients/clients’ needs are identified, and programmes of care are implemented to meet individual patient and client needs.
Ensure that best practice in care is delivered.
To work as part of a team ensuring effective communication with all health care professionals within the clinical team and across all disciplines.
Patient safety
Recognise and act on situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of an individual.
Recognise own limitations and only work within own scope of professional practice and competence
To contribute to the monitoring and auditing of the standards of care in the clinical area.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • First level registered nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Council (UK)
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent
  • Practice Assessor or equivalent
  • Evidence of professional development
  • Current experience at Band 5/6 with supporting role with undergraduate students/apprentices
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Practice Teacher
  • PG Cert Ed
