The Opportunity
Avantor is seeking a dedicated and experienced Laboratory Technician Service Lead to join our team in Cambridge, UK. This key management role will oversee the Laboratory Technician Support Service and mentor a team of up to 14 Laboratory Technicians.
This is a 12‑month fixed‑term position based in a state‑of‑the‑art facility at the Discovery Centre, BioMed Campus in Cambridge. The role offers an attractive salary, a bonus, a pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an additional day off for your birthday.
The Team
You will join a team of three Laboratory Service Leads, each with expertise in different laboratory disciplines, and lead a group of Laboratory Technicians (up to 14 direct reports).
What We’re Looking For
Education
* A Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent laboratory experience.
Experience
* People management, including recruitment, behavioural management, and staff development.
* Laboratory experience with SHE requirements and IOSH certification desirable.
* Familiarity with GxP regulations, audit requirements, and CAPAs.
* Incident response and investigation, including root cause analysis.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis/reporting.
* Experience writing Risk Assessments and COSHH.
How You’ll Thrive And Create An Impact
* Oversee day‑to‑day laboratory operations and ensure smooth and efficient lab functions.
* Take responsibility for all aspects of Health and Safety, including audits and GEMBA walks, and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Plan and manage time, prioritise and coordinate daily operational tasks for the scientific support team.
* Attend regular business meetings with customers to present data, KPI capture and deviation analysis.
* Create, maintain and update documentation supporting service delivery compliance and training, such as work instructions, risk assessments, COSHH assessments and training.
