Post Doctoral Research Associate - Differentiated Meteorites
The Open University is seeking a Post Doctoral Research Associate to work on a novel study measuring the distribution and isotopic composition of light elements in differentiated meteorites.
About the Role
Applications are invited for an STFC-funded PDRA position in the School of Physical Sciences. The successful candidate will work independently but as part of an active Cosmochemistry Research Group (CRG). The work involves carrying out a novel study using ion microprobe and stepped combustion techniques.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform detailed chemical, mineral, and isotopic measurements of selected differentiated meteorites.
* Prepare samples and standards for chemical, mineral, and isotopic measurements.
* Process data and synthesise results from measurements.
* Write papers on the research and present findings at international conferences.
* Undertake other duties as required by the PI on the project.
About You
* PhD in analytical geochemistry or a closely related field.
* Demonstrable expertise in geochemistry, mineralogy, and petrology.
* Ability to carry out micron-to-sub-micron scale sample analyses and standard preparation.
* Experience in using Mass Spectrometry methods to acquire isotopic and/or elemental compositions.
* Demonstrated ability to work both as part of a team and on own initiative.
What's in it for you?
The Open University offers a range of benefits, including flexible working arrangements and a great work-life balance.
How to apply
* Submit a CV and supporting statement outlining why you're interested in this role and how your skills and experience meet the essential and desirable criteria.
