Introduction The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority is responsible for protecting and managing one of Australia’s most iconic coastal landscapes. We care for parks, reserves and marine environments along the Great Ocean Road, including internationally recognised visitor sites. Working closely with Traditional Owners, communities and stakeholders, we protect environmental, cultural and heritage values while supporting sustainable visitation and long‑term conservation. Description About the role As General Counsel, you’ll be a trusted advisor to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board, providing authoritative legal and governance advice across a complex public sector environment. You’ll play a critical role in enabling strategic decisions, managing legal risk, and strengthening governance frameworks that support transparent and compliant operations. This is a part time role (0.5 FTE) for a fixed term of 6 months. What you’ll do Provide strategic, high-quality legal advice across regulatory, governance, environmental, commercial and public sector matters Act as principal legal advisor to the CEO, ELT and Board on sensitive, high-risk and high-profile issues Lead legal risk, compliance and integrity frameworks, ensuring proactive risk identification and mitigation Oversee external legal providers, including procurement, performance, cost control and reporting Support major projects, partnerships and commercial arrangements with sound legal input Embed strong governance practices aligned with statutory authority obligations Build and maintain relationships with regulators, government, Traditional Owners and key stakeholders Contribute to organisational strategy, risk management and executive decision-making Skills And Experiences What we're looking for Admitted Australian Lawyer with eligibility for a Victorian practising certificate Significant senior legal experience in government, statutory authorities or highly regulated environments Deep expertise in administrative law, statutory interpretation, governance, and regulatory compliance Strong experience in commercial, procurement and contract law Proven ability to advise at Board and executive level on complex, sensitive matters Track record in establishing or leading legal and governance functions Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills Sound understanding of Victorian Government frameworks and accountability systems A values-driven leader committed to integrity, inclusion and environmental stewardship Please submit CV and cover letter to recruitment@greatoceanroadauthority.vic.gov.au.
