Permanent

Grade B - £28,598 - £33,699

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

We are looking for a Programme Support Officer to join the Children and Young People (CYP) Team within Birmingham City Council’s Public Health Division. This role supports the delivery of evidence-based public health initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes for children and young people across Birmingham.

You will work closely with the Programme Officer, Senior Officer, and wider Public Health team to deliver projects within Birmingham’s Healthy Start, Child Weight Management, Healthy Child Programme. This is an excellent opportunity to develop subject matter knowledge and technical expertise within the Public Health model, while contributing to reducing health inequalities and improving wellbeing for children and families.

The Children and Young People (CYP) Team plays a vital role in delivering Birmingham’s Healthy Child Programme, which includes health visiting, school nursing, the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP), and vision screening. The team also leads on child and family weight management, the Healthy Start and Healthy Start Vitamins Scheme, and initiatives to reduce infant mortality. Working in partnership with council directorates, the Integrated Care System, NHS trusts, third sector organisations, and commissioned services, the team is committed to improving health and wellbeing for children and young people across the city.

As Programme Support Officer, you will help deliver public health programmes and projects that make a real difference to children and families. This includes supporting the planning and organisation of events, meetings, and workshops, preparing reports and presentations based on data analysis, and contributing to continuous improvement in performance, cost efficiency, and quality. You will also play an active role in stakeholder engagement and partnership working across sectors to ensure successful outcomes.


What We’re Looking For

* A motivated and enthusiastic self-starter willing to learn and adapt.
* Experience working flexibly and proactively in a matrix environment.
* Strong project management skills, including scoping projects with clear aims and milestones.
* Ability to analyse data and communicate findings to diverse audiences.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including use of social media.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
* Experience in planning and delivering events and workshops.
* Knowledge or interest in public health priorities and policy affecting children and young people.
