GENERAL SCIENCE AND BIOLOGY TECHNICIAN
• Part-Time: 15 hours per week, across 5 days.
• Fixed-Term until 26th June 2026, with the possibility of becoming permanent.
• Term Time Only plus INSET days.
• Full Time Equivalent is £31,113.90 per annum.
• Pro-Rata salary to reflect part-time and term-time only hours: £9,771.82 per annum

Job Purpose
The post holder will be responsible for assisting with organisation and maintenance to support the smooth running of science provision. Although the primary focus of this role is supporting Biology at this time, the willingness to be flexible is an advantage. The post will be across five days a week for a fixed term ending on 26 June 2026, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Main Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
• To be part of a team of Science Technicians with the capability to work independently and take a flexible approach.
• To undertake preparation of equipment and materials for General Science and Biology lessons as requested by teaching staff.
• To maintain stock levels of equipment and consumables in laboratories and prep rooms.
• To submit orders for new equipment for purchase after researching for the best price with suppliers.
• To be responsible for clearing away of equipment and materials from lessons.
• To be responsible for washing of any glassware used in lessons.
• To be responsible for cleaning and maintenance of equipment in laboratories and prep rooms.
• To undertake repairs of breakages where possible.
• To oversee modification and construction of apparatus.
• To set up demonstrations as required by teaching staff.
• To be aware of and update risk assessments in all areas.
• To be aware of health and safety matters in all areas and adhere to the school’s policies.
• To maintain and update records of the experiments.
• To maintain a clear and tidy working area in the prep room and laboratories.
• To trial practical activities if required.
• To assist teachers during practical activities in lesson, such as supervision of small group work when required.
• To provide technical support in the preparation of and during data-logging activities.
Other Responsibilities
• To attend regular meetings with the team of Science Technicians and departmental colleagues and any other meetings as required by the school.
• To seek the Head’s authorisation for any anticipated absence from school; to give as much notice as possible of unavoidable absence through sickness and to indicate work for classes to follow in case of absence.
• To be familiar with and practise school policies, in particular relating to Data Protection, GDPR (or other relevant legislation), Health and Safety, Confidentiality and Child Protection.
• To help to create and promote an image of the school which is in accordance with its aims.
• To attend relevant courses as required to support fulfilment of the role.
• To be responsible for the security and safe use of valuable items held by the department.
• To report to the facilities management team any damage to departmental areas, equipment, furniture and fittings.
The post holder will be expected to carry out such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility
