Job Description: Workshop Engineer

Reporting to the Reliability & Obsolescence Manager, the Workshop Engineer will be responsible for testing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Rail Communication equipment. This role requires strong analytical skills, hands-on experience with electronic diagnostic tools, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues independently.
This role requires presence in our workshop in Canning Town (London) five days a week.
What you’ll do:
* Perform component-level troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of electronic devices and circuit boards.
* Use oscilloscopes, multi-meters, soldering equipment, and other diagnostic tools for hardware evaluation and repair.
* Analyze root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
* Maintain accurate repair records and documentation of work performed.
* Collaborate with engineering teams to provide feedback on recurring issues or product design improvements.
* Ensure safety standards and company procedures are followed during repair operations.
* Assist in inventory management of parts and tools for repairs.
* Support product testing and quality control efforts as needed.
Who you are:
You should have prior experience in component-level repairs, soldering, and testing of electronic equipment.
Key Requirements:
* A recognized engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or higher) or related field, or equivalent work experience.
* Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic systems at the component level.
* Ability to read schematics, datasheets, and technical documentation proficiently.
* Strong soldering and desoldering skills, including SMT and through-hole components.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Knowledge of ESD safety practices.
