Overview
We're hiring: Payroll Assistant Manager – London. Salary: £42,000 - £47,000. Location: London | Practice Environment. Experience: 6+ years | Leadership focus. This role combines hands-on client support with guiding and developing a payroll team.
Responsibilities
* Support, coach, and inspire payroll team members to reach their full potential
* Build strong, trusted relationships with a diverse portfolio of clients
* Provide expertise and reassurance on complex payroll queries
* Ensure accuracy and compliance across all payroll activities
* Collaborate with colleagues and senior leaders to enhance processes and systems
* Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and team development
What We're Looking For
* 6+ years' payroll experience, with at least 2 years in an Assistant Manager role (practice background ideal)
* Confident understanding of auto-enrolment legislation and manual PAYE/NIC calculations
* Experience in leading, mentoring, or nurturing a team
* Strong Excel skills (intermediate level+)
* Excellent communication across all levels
Nice to Have
* Familiarity with Paycircle software
* HMRC PAYE tools experience
* CIPP qualification (or working towards it)
* Finance or business-related degree
