Your Mission:
As a Principal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and reliability of our products. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
* Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Safety Management System within a Systems Engineering framework.
* Produce and manage Project Safety Management Plans & Justification Plans.
* Lead hazard and risk identification, management, and assessment activities using modern analysis techniques like STAMP & STPA.
* Influence the construction and delivery of the Project Safety Case, including Safety Case reports throughout the project lifecycle.
* Conduct peer reviews and assurance tasks to validate the robustness of the Safety Case and supporting documentation.
* Mentor and oversee junior members of the Product Safety team.
* Understand and apply wider Safety Case, Quality, and HS&E Management System documentation.
Your Skills and Experience:
Essential:
* A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent qualification.
* Awareness of environmental challenges that our products face.
* Experience with traditional safety analysis techniques such as FMEA, HAZOP, and FTA.
* Proven ability to compile and deliver Safety Case Reports and supporting documentation.
* Experience in developing and working within a Projects Safety Management System.
* Strong ability to interpret technical data and produce clear, logical safety arguments.
Desirable:
* Professional Chartership or working towards it.
* Knowledge of the lifecycle phases of submarine design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and testing.
* Experience with modern safety analysis techniques like STAMP, STPA, and FRAM.
* Familiarity with System Engineering International Standards in a safety engineering context.
* Previous experience leading meetings and working groups.

About the Safety & Environmental Team:
In this role, you will lead the development and maintenance of the Project Product Safety Management System and Product Safety Cases for the SSNA project. You will also guide others in resolving complex project-related issues from a Product Safety perspective. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates across all Submarines roles.
