About the Opportunity
Our Engineering team builds the technology that empowers MoonPay to innovate rapidly and scale efficiently. We thrive in small, collaborative cross-functional teams of 4-6 engineers, working closely with a dedicated Product Manager and Product Data Analyst. MoonPay is seeking individuals with experience in developing blockchain applications and integrations to contribute to our expanding consumer and B2B initiatives. Our focus areas include self-custody wallets, DeFi Trading, on-chain asset delivery, and innovating on what the future of Web3 means.
What You Will Do
1. Transaction Infrastructure at Scale:
2. Design and improve high-volume transaction broadcasting pipelines
3. Manage transaction lifecycle
4. Detect, retry, rebroadcast, and safely recover stuck transactions
5. Wallet & Lifecycle Management
6. Contribute to wallet infrastructure and automation systems
7. Implement safe parallel transaction handling
8. Improve monitoring, observability, and operational guardrails
9. Design systems with financial correctness, reconciliation and auditability in mind
10. Cross-Chain & DeFi Integrations:
11. Build infrastructure supporting cross-chain and multi-step flows (fiat to on-chain and vice versa)
12. Handle non-atomic multi-step journeys across chains
13. Design state machines and recovery strategies for partial failure scenarios
14. Support routing mechanics and swap execution considerations, such as price impact, liquidity changes, including MEV awareness
15. Build reliable off-chain services that interact with on-chain contracts
16. End-to-End Engineering Ownership:
17. Participate in estimation, planning, and execution of projects, features, and integrations
18. Develop and maintain thoroughly tested, high-quality, and performant code
19. Collaborate closely with Product Managers to design scalable implementation strategies
20. Contribute to reliable, maintainable systems that evolve with product needs
21. Participate in incident response and post-mortems
22. Improve reliability, alerting, and system resilience
23. Continuously evolve infrastructure to support growing volume and complexity
About You
24. Must-Have
25. Strong backend/platform engineering fundamentals
26. Experience operating production systems with real uptime requirements
27. Hands-on experience interacting with live blockchain networks in production
28. Clear understanding of transaction lifecycle in at least 1 Blockchain and failure recovery
29. You think in failure modes, not just happy paths
30. Strong Signals
31. You can explain a real production incident end-to-end
32. Experience with at least 1 wallet infrastructure (Eth, Bitcoin, Solana) or custody systems
33. Awareness of MEV, slippages, pricing impact and swap execution risks
34. Experience with high-throughput or financial systems
35. Bonus points
36. Experience working at exchanges, custody providers, wallet infrastructure teams, or high-volume DeFi platforms
37. Familiarity with UTXO-based chains (e.g., Bitcoin), including coin selection and fee bumping strategies (RBF / CPFP)
38. Experience designing cross-chain or multi-step transaction orchestration systems
39. Familiarity with blockchain indexing or event ingestion pipelines
40. Understanding of common token standards (ERC-20, SPL) and interacting with smart contracts from backend services
