The Diocese of York is a diverse family of nearly 600 churches and 442 parishes, serving communities across North and East Yorkshire. Our mission is shaped by Living Christ’s Story, our diocesan strategy to become a flourishing, sustainable Church, enabling every community to have a vibrant Christian presence. Further to a successful funding opportunity, we are inviting applications for the role of Parish Giving Development Officer, a new and significant outward‑facing post at the heart of our diocesan life. The Role The Parish Giving Development Officer will play a key part the Diocese’s Free Will Offer process, supporting parishes to strengthen financial sustainability and to grow generosity in support of our shared mission. Working closely with clergy, treasurers and parish officers, you will build trusting relationships, improve understanding of parish finances, and help parishes develop realistic three‑year giving plans. You will play a central role in:
* Supporting parishes to understand the cost of ministry and diocesan finances
* Encouraging a culture of generosity, trust and transparency
* Coordinating triennial budget conversations across the diocese
* Working collaboratively with diocesan teams, deaneries and parishes
This role is vital to enabling sustainable ministry, particularly across diverse and low‑income communities. The Person We are looking for someone who brings:
* Proven experience of project delivery and financial analysis
* Excellent communication, relationship‑building and organisational skills
* The ability to interpret and communicate financial information clearly and persuasively
* Empathy, resilience and confidence in handling sensitive and sometimes challenging conversations
You will have an understanding of Christian giving and sympathy with the mission and ministry of the Church of England. You will be comfortable working flexibly, travelling within the diocese, and attending occasional evening or Saturday meetings. Relevant experience of parish finances, diocesan structures, or stewardship and generosity work is desirable. Why Join Us?
