FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to work for our client within the technology sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Luton or Farringdon.
Our client is seeking an experienced and passionate Quality Engineer to join one of their newly formed greenfield product teams, focused on delivering next-generation solutions. This is a unique opportunity to shape quality engineering practices from the ground up and play a key role in embedding quality across the entire software development lifecycle.
In this role, you will work in a highly collaborative, agile environment, partnering with developers, product owners, architects, and business analysts to ensure that quality is integrated from the very beginning of each feature. With a clear focus on automation, ownership, and continuous improvement, you will contribute to building robust, scalable, and maintainable test solutions that enable rapid delivery of high-quality software.
Responsibilities
1. Work closely with developers and other product team members to create production-ready features with quality built in from the outset
2. Collaborate with Quality Engineering Architects to embed consistent quality practices into team ways of working
3. Demonstrate ownership and accountability by committing to deliverables, being transparent about progress, and making obstacles visible
4. Promote a holistic approach to testing with an automation-first mindset
5. Pair with developers to enable broader contributions to test automation
6. Design, build, and maintain concise, robust, and readable test automation frameworks
7. Support the removal of technical impediments that hinder team progress
8. Work with business analysts and product owners to define and review automation-focused acceptance criteria for user stories
9. Ensure quality is embedded into the team’s definition of ready and definition of done
10. Implement and maintain quality metrics that clearly reflect product health and effectiveness of testing
11. Advocate for and seek out opportunities to increase the effectiveness and value of automation in support of Agile and DevOps practices
12. Lead working groups to address bugs or quality issues and deliver practical solutions
13. Contribute to technical discussions across broader technology teams
14. Stay up to date with trends in quality engineering and bring new ideas and tools to support continuous improvement
15. Actively participate in internal Test Communities, sharing knowledge and helping to build capabilities across teams
