We have an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses who have the skills required for the role of a junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join the in-patient Respiratory team. You will work with the Senior Sister and Matron to provide strong clinical leadership to the ward facilitating the delivery of high quality, patient centred care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to support the complex Respiratory needs of the patients within the speciality and complete ward based training and education through mentoring students, supporting TNAs and Integrated therapists. They must be committed to evidenced based care and remain up to date with national recommendations whilst adhering to clinical governance. They will also be expected to partake in local and national audits.

The Sister/Charge Nurse role includes the provision of nursing care and clinical skills to a diverse range of patients whilst supporting colleagues and carers on the ward.

GRaDE Care Group is comprised of 3 clinical directorates:

  • Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology and Hepatology
  • Respiratory Medicine
  • All three directorates operate on the Northern and Central campus’ although the acute admitting base for all of the specialties is at the Northern General Hospital. The Care Group has 11 acute base wards at the Northern General Hospital and one acute and one elective base ward at the Central Campus. Outpatient services operate on both campus’ and are supported by the Patient Booking Hub at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

    Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse
  • To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
  • Possess or working towards a degree.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Master’s level degree
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Experience at AFC band 5 (or equivalent)
  • Experience of caring for patients with Respiratory conditions
  • Evidence of delivering education and training to patients and staff.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively within multi- disciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of leadership and management in a healthcare setting
  • Evidence of applying research and audit in practice.
  • Evidence of successfully managing & evaluating change
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Further Training

    Essential criteria

  • IV drug administration competency.
  • Evidence of professional development.
  • IT/Computer skills
  • Ability to apply healthcare governance principles.
  • Leadership and motivational skills.
  • Special Skills / Aptitudes

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation and leadership ability.
  • Ability to work under pressure
